The Muslim community in Bradford

Bradford has one of the highest concentrations of Muslims of any place in England. In the 2021 Census, 30.5% of the district's population identified as Muslim, up nearly six percentage points since 2011. The community is overwhelmingly of Pakistani heritage: Bradford had the second-largest proportion of Pakistani-origin residents of any local authority in England, at 25.5%, much of it tracing back to families who came from Mirpur in Azad Kashmir from the 1950s onwards to work the city's textile mills.
