Frequently asked questions

Answers to what we get asked most.

What is Zawji?

Zawji is halal matchmaking for Muslims who want nikah: the same house in every country, built in Stockholm. We are zawji.se, not the Telegram app zawji.app. Every profile is safety-checked automatically, the chat is protected by filters against phone numbers, and the wali comes in when she shares him. It is free to find each other: joining, browsing, showing interest and replying cost nothing. Premium unlocks the chat, the same for sisters and brothers.

How is Zawji run?

The Zawji Team runs Zawji with a focus on halal principles. It is free to join, browse and show interest. The chat opens with Premium, and either of you can open it for both.

How is Zawji different from Muzz and Salams?

Muzz and Salams are driven by algorithms and swipe mechanics. On Zawji every profile is safety-checked automatically for authenticity, and the chat is protected by automatic contact-info screening and a report queue (admins do not read the chats). It is not dating: it is serious marriage-seeking according to Quran and Sunnah.

What is a wali and why is one needed?

A wali (guardian) is a male relative who represents the woman in the marriage process, according to Islamic tradition. On Zawji we encourage wali involvement: when a match becomes serious, the sister shares her wali's contact details, the brother calls the wali himself and the families arrange a sittning.

How does registration work?

You create a profile with your background, deen and preferences. The profile is safety-checked automatically and usually activated right away. Then you can browse profiles and send interest.

Why do sisters and brothers have different limits on interests?

Sisters are fewer than brothers on Zawji. Unlimited interests for sisters would give the brothers fewer replies. So sisters send interests with no monthly limit, while brothers without Premium send five a month. A friend who writes an About me unlocks unlimited, and with Premium there is no limit. The chat costs the same for sisters and brothers.

Do I need to upload a photo?

No. Photos are optional and hidden by default: you choose who sees yours, and every image is moderated and watermarked. You are judged on your deen, your values and your goals, not on appearance. A photo is an optional extra.

Can I use Zawji as a revert (convert)?

Absolutely! Zawji welcomes all Muslims, including reverts. We have a dedicated page for reverts and many members are open to marrying converts.

Can I use Zawji if I am divorced?

Yes. Zawji has no stigma around divorce. Many of our members are looking for a new partner after a previous marriage.

Which cities does Zawji cover?

Zawji has members in more than 340 cities in Sweden: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Uppsala, Jönköping, Linköping and many more. We keep expanding.

How do I pray istikhara for marriage?

Istikhara is a prayer in which you ask Allah for guidance. Zawji has a complete istikhara guide that explains step by step how to do it. Visit zawji.se/en/istikhara for more information.
