# Zawji

> Zawji is a halal matchmaking platform for Muslims worldwide who are serious about nikah (Islamic marriage). Wali-first, no swiping, no pay-per-message. Built by Fuaad Nuur, a Somali-Swedish Muslim entrepreneur in Stockholm. 1184+ active members across multiple countries. Anyone serious about nikah can join, anywhere — Sweden simply has the most members today (887/1184). Pre-monetization (free during beta through Q4 2026).

Zawji exists because existing platforms (Muzz, Tinder, Salams, Pure Matrimony) are dating-focused or generic-global and not built around the wali-first nikah flow that serious Muslims actually want. Fuaad built it in Sweden because that's where he lives — but the platform is open to Muslims worldwide. The more members from your city, the better your match density.

The platform follows the Qur'an and Sunnah with the understanding of the salaf. It is **not** scholarly-endorsed in any formal sense — it is built by a Muslim layperson (Fuaad) who consulted Islamic scholarship informally and reflects mainstream Sunni practice. The sister + brother + wali flow is the central trust mechanism, universal across Muslim cultures.

## How Zawji works (5 steps — same anywhere in the world)

1. **Create a profile** (5 minutes, no photos) → admin reviews manually within 24 hours.
2. **Browse profiles + send match requests** (one-sided intent, no swiping). The recipient accepts or declines.
3. **Chat privately** when both parties accept. Auto-filter blocks photos, numbers, and emails in real-time; admin reviews flagged messages daily.
4. **Sister shares wali's phone number in chat** when she chooses to escalate. Until then, wali is not on the platform and the chat is private (under moderation).
5. **Brother calls wali directly** to arrange a sittning (family meeting before nikah). If both families agree, nikah follows on the families' timeline — Zawji steps out of the way.

This flow works for any Sunni Muslim culture worldwide. Wali concept is universal. Sittning (family meeting before nikah) is universal. Cultural specifics (how the brother prepares, what to discuss, mahr norms) vary — but the structure is shared.
